My experience with Melissa Stewart

Today I got to meet the author of two great Reader's Theater books When Rain Falls and Under the Snow. Both by Melissa Stewart . She got the idea for the cover of Under the Snow  when she was hiking she saw a pond that had been iced over . She thought that newts hibernated in the winter but she saw newts swirling in a pond! It also took her five years to write Under the Snow!            Melissa published her first book in 1998 ! So she has been writing great books for thirteen years ! She gets her information for her books by interviewing scientists so she can get information for her great books. Mrs. Melissa gave us some tips for Reader's Theater! I am so excited for her new and upcoming books!     Emma

Skype with author

I think that it was awesome when we got to use skype with the author. I learned that  without monkeys there would be no chocolate. I can't wate untill the new book comes out, No Monkeys no Chocolate. I didn't even think that she

Webchat with Melissa Stewart

Today in focus we videochatted with Melissa Stewart. I learned that she is coming up with a new book. It is called No More Monkeys No More Chocolate. It sounds like a good book.It will be sold in 2013

I learned coco beans don't fall off the plant. If they stay on the plant they rot. We need monkeys to pull them off. The monkeys spit the seeds out as they swing through the forest. Then more plants grow.

I really enjoyed the webchat. I hope we can do this again. Bryan

Our opinion on the video chat

I think that the experience was outstanding having met an author over computer. She was different than I had expected her to be.I think her books and readers theater scripts are great. Not many kids get to meet authors so I am very lucky. She has written many great books.I cannot wait for her newest book No Monkeys no Chocolate.Presently,I am in the When Rain Falls.
Today we visited Melissa Stewart on the web. We asked her about writing books. She gave us some very good tips on writing. It is very intersting that it could take 4 to 5 years to finally get a book published. She said that when you write a book it takes patience. I am very honored that we got to visit her and ask her qeustions about her books and life.

Meeting Melissa Stewart

Today I was sooooo excited because...I got to meet Melissa Stewart!Melissa is the author who wrote our Readers Theater. She was soo nice and,she also taught me some things! She taught me that monkeys eat pulp from the coco but, they don't eat the beans. They drop the beans in the ground and help more coco trees to grow! She told us that her favorite animal that was in her book Under The Snow is a newt. She also told us that she likes Readers Theater because, you can make the story funnier.Well,I enjoyed getting to meet Melissa Stewart.

Author visit!

Today I got to see Melissa Stewart on a video thing.I saw her in her house and all her furniture. She helped figure out how to write a Reader's Theater script. She told us, if you choose a book with no dialogue, then just use your imagination to come up with voices for the characters.I am also excited to see and read her upcoming books about animals helping to make a chocolate tree grow. It's called No Monkeys No Chocolate. There also some other books like butterflies and moths, dolphins and sharks, and alligators and crocodiles.Melissa Stewart used to have a cat that gave her some ideas for animals in a book. But unfortunately, her cat died!!so after her house is done reconstructing itself, they will probably get a new pet at the animal shelter for some more ideas. It was really exciting meeting a famous author like Melissa Stewart!

Author Visit

We did an online visit with an author. We were the first ones in our county to do it. It was really different. We asked questions and she gave us answers. I really enjoyed this because it was a unique experience. I enjoyed listening to all her answers. She told us how she got her ideas and how she did her research. I learned alot about what it takes to be an author. I was exited when i heard that we were going to do this. I really hope we do this again.

The Visit.....?

This experience has been awesome for me because we are the first in the county to do this and I think that's pretty cool. Melissa Stewart told us a lot of awesome tips and facts. These tips are going to be really useful when we write our own Reader's Theater scripts. I hope other people get to do something like this because this was such a cool experience. I love to write just like Melissa Stewart.

web cam author visit- Sheefa

Today we saw the author Melissa Stewart! Not only did we see her, but we saw her virtually! It was very exciting and also a very interesting activity to do. First , we had to come up with questions to ask her. Everybody had their thinking caps on and started to jot down a few questions. Then when we were done, we read our questions aloud. All of them were pretty good. Then the day of the author visit finally came! We were so excited to meet her. Then , all of a sudden, the web cam went on. We could see her! After a short introduction, we started asking a few questions. I was very fascinated by the answers we were getting. She also talked about a new book that she wrote but it wasn't coming out until 2013! It was a book called,'' No Monkeys, No Chocolate!'' It was about how monkeys who live in the rain forest eat the pulp of the cocoa beans. So if they didn't, there would be no chocolate! Anyways, it was a very nice activity we worked on. - Sheefa

Melissa Stewart Experience

Today, we had a special experience! We talked to Melissa Stewart by video chatting. I thought it was very interesting because we were all in a different state and we were all still talking to each other. I also had a special feeling because we are the one of the first few people to do this with an author. In one of our questions that we asked her I learned something new about the rain rain forests . In one of her books she's working on No Monkeys ! No Chocolate! I learned that some monkeys in the rain forests break open cocoa pods and the eat the pulp from the pod and then they knock the cocoa seeds out onto the forest floor,so they actully help the cocoa trees to keep growing. So, if we didn't have these monkeys we wouldn't have any chocolate!!! This is what i thought about our experience with Melissa Stewart!!!
